Memories of
Marjorie Gillingham CPS

President 1979-80 & 1989-90

Wings Chapter just gets better with each year in my opinion.  We have had an outstanding reputation in the Division for all the years I have been a member (since 1970).  Some thoughts that come to mind:

I can remember the meetings were much longer when I joined (as late as 10:30 one night.)

We did not have a regular meeting place until after my last night as president.  It had been customary for the outgoing president to choose the place for the meeting which was usually a country club.  I chose the Dayton Woman's Club as the site for my second outgoing event.  It was so well received that we continued meeting there until it had to temporarily close due to financial problems, at which time we went to Sinclair.  Prior to that we took potluck--never knowing if there was a mike that would work, if there would be a flag so we could do the Pledge of Allegiance, etc.  If we met south one month we would try to meet north the next month so it would be equally convenient/inconvenient for all members.

Each chapter used to have a "Secretary of the Year" night when three members were interviewed during the meeting by a business person (we tried to get well known individuals in the community) and judged as to their poise and ability to answer impromptu questions.  Three of the local winners would then go on to International where the same procedure was carried out.  There was then an International Secretary of the Year.  Wings Chapter had three winners which was most unusual.  Several years ago International discontinued this event.
